Video Graphics Array (VGA) connectors are found in a lot of audio/visual components. It is primarily used to connect computers with a piece of equipment. Although they are already an old kind of connection, they still have their uses. The VGA connection on a device will have a female 15-pin D-sub port. The D shape makes sure the VGA cable will fit just one way around. You can find it blue or black in colour.
How VGA Connection Works
VGA connectors exist to connect a laptop or PC. Such kind of connection will often be designed to get an analog RGB signal from a connected service. This signal is what you get from a computer and supports standard-definition and high-definition resolutions. Because it doesn’t transmit audio signals, you will need a separate audio connection to hear any video.
When to Use a VGA Connector?
A VGA connector is used when connecting a laptop or PC to a projector or television. But, when the computer or laptop comes with a DVI or HDMI output, a VGA connector may no longer be needed. For output devices that only have a VGA port, a VGA connector must be able to provide you with a good image.
Other Things to Know About VGA Connections
IBM developed VGA in 1987 for a 680 x 480 pixels of display resolution. In order to have a sharp computer image on the television screen, the computer’s output resolution should be set to match the TV’s native resolution. Otherwise, the image will look blurred or stretched. Moreover, depending on the TV’s native resolution and the output capabilities of the graphics card in the computer, the whole screen may not be filled with a sharp image because of unmatched output resolutions. When using a laptop, you must press a combination of keys to send the image to the television. The keys to press vary between models so refer to your user’s manual.
Computers with a VGA port will make it hard to send a computer image to a TV that has no VGA connection. Although you can purchase cheap converter adapters in the market, beware of the limitations. For instance, copyright protected material won’t be played because of a lack of HDCP connection. Also, you may need to have a separate audio connection. Also, remember to check the way in which you want the signal to go and purchase the right adapter.
